NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK, 17–23 MAY 2021

We are incredibly lucky to have such a passionate team of volunteers here at the Women's Art Register. Without these wonderful individuals, we simply wouldn't exist!

One of our team, Leia Alex, was recently interviewed by the City of Yarra for a video and blog they put together to celebrate Yarra's volunteers.

Leia came to Melbourne from the US in 2019 and is a current W.A.R. Committee Member working across advocacy, community engagement and archiving. She feels that the skills, experience and partnerships that she gained through volunteering has crossed over perfectly into her paid work. Leia is now employed as the Festival Coordinator of the Human Rights Arts & Film Festival.

Read more about her work at W.A.R., as well as the work of other volunteers in the City of Yarra.

“There is incredible strength within the volunteer team at the Women’s Art Register and it’s a cause that I feel strongly about. I value the mentorship and sense of belonging that I get from the other artists. They really inspire me with my own art practice. I feel that I am contributing to something larger than myself.”
