2024 Artist Residency

WOMEN’S ART REGISTER X SEVENTH
2024 ARTIST RESIDENCY

We are very happy to share that the EOIs for the Women’s Art Register X Seventh Artist Residency are now open!

KEY DATES

  • Information Session on Thursday 7 December 2023

  • Applications close midnight on Sunday 14 January 2024

  • Residency runs from 6 March–29 May 2024

The residency will commence with a guided research period in the feminist archives of W.A.R. This research will run concurrently with a studio residency at Seventh Gallery, facilitating the integration of the undertaken research into the selected resident's practice.

We have compiled a reader featuring an array of different resources related to notions of 'the archive'. We have featured some general texts as well as some resources with a specific focus on the W.A.R. archive and contemporary feminist practice. This reading list is not meant to establish rigid criteria or dictate an approach to the project you may wish to develop. Instead, it serves as a starting point—a source of inspiration to encourage you to explore archives and consider ways to engage with them creatively.

Artists, as well as non-traditional researchers, are encouraged to apply. The resident will receive a stipend of $1,500, as well as guidance from both W.A.R. and Seventh. At the conclusion of the residency the artist is expected to present some kind of public outcome at Seventh, although we are very open as to what this might be. The outcome does not need to be proposed in your application, and we are very happy for its form to unfold organically during the residency.

We hosted an information session on Zoom on 7 December 2023, where we introduced interested applicants to the W.A.R. archive so they could get a feel for its possibilities. You can watch the recording below.

If you have any questions about this EOI, please reach out to Lucie at community@seventhgallery.org.
