Star
Artist - FRANCESCA MATARAGA Artist
Statement
Francesca Mataraga is a
Sydney based artist. Her work is conceptual and installation based incorporating
painting, sculpture and drawing.
Francesca’s work raises certain
questions about the physical presence of objects. Drawing on minimalist
ideas and materials Francesca’s work explores how materials alter the perception
of an artwork. The juxtaposition of certain materials affect the viewer’s
spatial perception of the artwork in the gallery environment and in the
landscape questioning the material presence of the object.
Francesca’s work has been
exhibited in Sydney and Melbourne at the Ivan Dougherty Gallery – College
of Fine Arts UNSW, the Tin Sheds Gallery Faculty of Architecture – University
of Sydney, Factory 49, Peloton and Sydney Non Objective Contemporary Art
Projects. She had been a finalist in various prizes such as the Woollahra
Small Sculpture Prize, the Blake Prize and the Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing
Award.
