ARTIST STATEMENT
“when memory & dreams entwine”
Australian contemporary
art for investors and collectors.
The artwork of Anna Glynn
is both evocative and poetic. As an artist, she is intrigued by the landscape
as an entity both on its own, and as a stage for the performances that
are acted out within it. Her work embraces the landscape as a scene for
this narrative where layers of time, the past and present, overlap.
Anna Glynn is an Australian
artist: painter, writer and composer. Her multi media work includes painting,
drawing, sculpture, writing, music, sound, set design and theatre. This
contemporary artist is continuing to receive international attention with
recent exhibitions in the USA, Canada, Korea and China. Her work has been
exhibited in commercial and public galleries in Australia and overseas
including the Kyoto Museum in Japan. Her work is represented in government,
corporate and private collections. In 1998 she received an International
Women’s Day Award for her contribution to 'Women, Art & the Community'.
She has been included in
the following publications:
- ‘Contemporary Australian
Art,’
- ‘Artists and Galleries
of Australia,’
- ‘A Dictionary of Women
Artists in Australia,’
- ‘Who’s Who of Australian
Visual Artists’
- ‘A Buyers Guide to Australian
Art’.
Her current multi media work:
‘Strange Memories’ is a hauntingly beautiful series that transports you
to another place and time through dreamlike paintings, poignant narration
and evocative music. It is a story that immerses itself in the Australian
landscape. The project includes: paintings & drawings, a book, a CD
of music and live performances. The book, 'Strange Memories,' is sixty
pages featuring twenty five of her paintings. It explores the resonance
of a journey in time through word and image. Strange Memories is in development
as a stage production with Merrigong Theatre Company at the Illawarra Performing
Arts Centre.
Glynn is currently preparing
for a number of exhibitions in China. The Zhu Qizhan Art Museum in Shanghai,
is the venue for her next exhibition. She has been invited to exhibit her
paintings in an exhibition titled 'Being' at the Zhu Qizhan Art Museum
in Shanghai 1st – 30th November 2007. This is a public contemporary art
museum in the Hongkou District. The exhibition theme ‘Being’ looks at the
importance of nature, animals and the environment. She will also present
a multi media work with narration based on her Strange Memories film for
the opening ceremony of the exhibition. She is also learning Chinese Mandarin.
