The response to the last bulletin was very positive thanks particularly to Naomi Drury of Platinum Design and to all of those who contributed articles. Please consider making a contribution to Bulletin 34, which we would like to have out before the end of the year. Since the last Bulletin we have had several offers of help and we have a small group coming in every second Tuesday to help out with archiving. We are still behind so if you could spare a couple of hours on a Tuesday or a Saturday please contact us and we’ll arrange a time for a training session. At the moment we double handle everything, storing new material in holding files until we get time to photocopy. We would like to avoid the holding files by having a photocopier in the archiving room so that as soon as material comes in it can be copied and placed in the master file and onto the library floor. If you know of any one or any organisation that might have a photocopier which is surplus to requirements, please let us know. We don’t have the funds to buy a photocopier but could really use one. Also on our wish list is a scanner and CD burner, but they are further down the list. Speaking of CDs, we have our first CD in our collection. Margaret Gurney has made up a CD of some of her work and sent in two copies. One copy is available for loan from the library desk. Any others who would like to contribute CDs of their work are most welcome. I'd suggest you also send two copies of a list of what is on the CD and if any special programs are needed to read the CDs. To make our job easier perhaps that info should go on a CD cover. It is also about time we had a new Artist of the Month on our website, if you would like your work to be featured on our website please send in 3-4 photos including, if you wish, one of yourself. Send a short statement about your work and a half page CV. Your work will be featured on the front page for at least a month and will remain on our site indefinitely or until you wish to have it removed. Let us know if you have a website and we’ll add it to our links page. At the moment we have updates to our catalogue on our website but it would be good to have the whole catalogue. I don’t have access to the files that were used to produce the catalogue, so in order to get the catalogue complete, we would need to scan it in. If there is an interstate or country member who would like to help us out with this, we would be grateful. You would need access to a scanner and e-mail. Let us know if you can help us out. If more than one person replies, we could easily split the job up. At a recent conference organised by Art Education Victoria, Carol Bryan spoke to VCE teachers about the Register and Jude Worters spoke to about 400 VCE students. We also handed out some surplus copies of filmstrips of In the Company of Women and the associated booklet. This set was made in 1982 and the booklet contains a short history of the Register and details of 60 images selected from the Register. It makes for interesting reading and viewing. We hope this will lead to more schools becoming members. |
