17 SEPTEMBER – 16 OCTOBER 2005
Artists: Mella Jaarsma (Indonesia), Sharmila Samant (India), Linde Ivimey (Australia), Niki Hastings-McFall (New Zealand), Caroline Ho-Bich-Tuyen Dang (Australia). Curated by Christine Clark and Lisa Byrne

This exhibition investigates the material use of objects, ranging from dried plant and sea matter to readily available international commodity items, in the consideration of issues including globalisation, identity, and cultural specificity. This exhibition incorporates works that vary considerably in materiality, as each artist draws from their individual social histories and directly engages with ideas that are both localised and global in context.

Forty artists from around Australia, New Zealand and Austria will exhibit in this unique exhibition that will showcase one-off artworks - book forms that break the boundaries of tradition in ideas, materials and construction. Papermakers of Victoria President Helen McPherson says, "This is fairly new ground for Papermakers of Victoria, we usually exhibit more traditional paper art but I guess this was a natural progression"
