ENDURING PASSIONS
May 16 - June 3 2006
This exhibition is an eclectic
collection of paintings and sculptures by nine talented, female artists
who explore their enduring passions. A variety of subject matter is covered.
The work encompasses the beauty of sailing, the natural environment and
the naked form, and the frivolity of a shoe fetish and cars with attitude.
Dancers spin themselves into ecstasy then all is silenced by the most revered
symbol of all - the cross. You are invited to enter into and experience
a voyeuristic journey into their passions.

Blurring - Xiao Yu Bai
from 6
April 2006,
Born in China, Xiao Yu Bai
immigrated to Australia in 1996. A follower of the Daoist philosophy in
life and in her work, Xiao's paintings seek to express Dao through the
technique of blurring realism. What is Dao? Chinese philosopher Lao Zi
stated that "Dao has no real shape. It is unclear and you cannot catch
it…It is unlimited, huge and tiny. It is also silent, smooth and void.
The sky and the earth come from the Dao. It is mother of everything."

| ‘LAUNDRY’ by
Linda Botham
2 Feb.2006 - 29.May.2006
Allan's Walk - artist run
space Bendigo - shop 5 Allans Walk.
"My childhood drawings (age
5-6 yrs) are used as source material to create a series of hand sewn
dolls; photo release works on paper are then produced using these dolls
as the primary image. Manufactured objects together with the aforementioned
made objects form this installation entitled ‘LAUNDRY’. I wish to
carry through this feeling of ambiguity within both the installation and
works on paper. The dolls are being used as representations of the human
figure to express ideas of sexuality, social identity and personal beliefs.
Pegged to a clothesline, these dolls form various tableaux hanging between
male and female underpants, whilst the works on paper represent illustrations
from an imaginary picture book. ..." |
